1000 Words Garden

Located on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis, our non-profit arts organization is dedicated to supporting and uniting local artists and art lovers. Our spaces serve as hubs for community, art appreciation, and knowledge sharing.

In 2023, we opened the 1000 Words Garden, creating an enriching outdoor art and placemaking experience for our community, fostering both appreciation for art and a deeper connection with nature. This community garden was made possible through funding from the Creative Placemaking program, a collaboration between the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center (INRC) and the Harrison Center in 2023. The INRC program, supported by Lilly Endowment’s Strengthening Indianapolis through Arts and Cultural Innovation grant, aims to empower community members to initiate projects that leverage the power of art and culture to address challenges and foster connections.

The 1000 Words Garden is open to the public, providing a serene garden space that also doubles as an outdoor art gallery. Throughout the year, we host a variety of garden events such as art workshops, performances, and community gatherings. These events are designed to engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds, further enriching the cultural experience offered by the garden. Additionally, the garden serves as a venue for private events and celebrations, offering a unique and picturesque setting for special occasions. The Garden includes murals designed by artist Kierra Ready of Free Mind Creations, LLC, and painted by volunteers from our community.
